Creative focus

  • Visual identity
  • Editorial layouts
  • Responsive interaction

01 / The concept

What if a website could feel like a great record?

Offbeat began as an independent design experiment: a fictional listening club built around musical curiosity and unexpected spaces. The aim was to explore a more expressive digital identity beyond conventional business website layouts.

An imagined programme and editorial voice give the concept a world to inhabit. They provide creative material for the website, with its fictional status made clear throughout the experience.

02 / The creative direction

A visual identity with its own rhythm.

A lime, ink, cream and orange palette sets the tone. Oversized condensed lettering meets italic serif accents, while record grooves, a tonearm and label details connect the visual identity to listening culture.

The layouts use contrasts in scale, angled imagery and editorial spacing to move between bold statements and quieter stories. The website’s original concept artwork supplies an imagined atmosphere; it is identified on the live site as AI-generated artwork.

03 / The experience

A complete creative experience, with room to explore.

The working single-page website leads from a record-inspired opening through the feeling, imagined sessions, house rules and journal to a conversation section. A full-screen menu and in-page links help visitors move through that story.

Session and journal controls open detail dialogs. Decorative motion can be paused, and the site responds to reduced-motion preferences. The responsive layouts carry its typography and identity onto smaller screens.

A distinctive opening
Large-scale type, a record illustration and contrasting colour establish the fictional brand immediately.
An imagined programme
Session entries open narrative details about fictional venues, music and atmosphere. They are concept content, with no ticket sales or bookings.
Editorial stories
Journal entries open complete reading dialogs, connecting the imagery and layout to the idea behind the listening club.
Interaction with considered motion
A menu dialog, motion toggle, scroll reveals and responsive compositions make the finished website navigable and expressive.

04 / The outcome

Creative direction translated into a working website.

Offbeat is a complete, navigable design concept that demonstrates Silverside’s ability to develop a distinctive visual direction and carry it through a responsive digital experience.

The project complements our commissioned work: an independent space to explore typography, interaction and creative ideas that can inform future website projects.
